Looking for a quick and easy dinner recipe that everyone will love? This delicious recipe has a creamy fresh tomato-based sauce, minimal ingredients, a great balance of healthy and tasty, and takes about 30 minutes to make.
This recipe has always been easy for me to recount from memory as my mom used to make this for us growing up. I always forgot about the recipe until I would smell the garlic, tomatoes and cream simmering in the kitchen and I remember being so excited every single time
My mom would make the sauce with Italian sausage, tomatoes, garlic, and cream. Like I said, very minimal ingredients but so good every time. I've added a couple of my own ingredients but feel free to change it as you see fit!
Mom's Creamy Italian Sausage Pasta
Section 1: List Your Ingredients
4 cups dry pasta
1.5 - 2 lbs of Italian Sausage, uncased - approximately 2 packages (I used the spicy one)
1 cup diced tomatoes
1 bell pepper, diced
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
1 tbsp garlic powder (eq. to 3 cloves garlic, crushed)
3 tbsp flour/cornstarch
1 & 1/4 cup of whole milk
3/4 cup pasta water (save for cream sauce)
1 tsp oil
Parsley, for topping (optional)
Parmesan, for topping (optional)
Directions
Start by filling a large pot with water and placing it on the stove, bringing it to a boil ver high heat.
Bring a large saucepan to medium heat and add the Italian sausage, breaking it up and cooking until brown, approximately 10 minutes.
Once the water is boiling, add the pasta and cook until al dente, about 10 minutes.
Diced the pepper and tomatoes (unless using canned tomatoes).
Once the Italian sausage is cooked through, remove it from the pan and set aside.
Using the same pan and leaving some of the oil from the sausage, add the pepper and tomatoes to the pan and cook over medium heat until soft.
Once softened, add the Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and flour/cornstarch and stir to coat the vegetables. Then, add the meat back to the pan and stir to coat.
Add the milk and pasta water to the meat and vegetable mixture and stir to combine. let simmer for 5 minutes until the sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.
Drain the pasta and toss it with the oil.
Add the sauce mixture to the pasta and stir to combine. Top with parsley or parmesan if you desire and enjoy!
This recipe is one of my favourites and i hope that if you make it, it could be one of yours too! It is so easy to make and doesn't require too many fresh ingredients if you don't have them. Feel free to substitute the Italian sausage with another ground meat that's in your freezer or the pepper with another vegetable.
